Men Are Boys

"Like a compass needle that always points north, a man’s accusing finger always finds a woman. Always." –A Thousand Splendid Suns, Khaled Hosseini. The Hero

The Hero Several people, mainly men, have expressed disgust at my choice of stories, particularly the Madhavi one. Why must you choose to write about these horrible stories, a pained friend asked. You are a nothing, my daughter accused me at age 4, when she found out at school that all her classmates’ mother’s had jobs that gave them important titles like banker, doctor, teacher. And such a blessing that has turned out to be that I don’t have one thing that defines me and nothingness offers me the space to be a homeschooling parent, an artist, a writer, story teller, a crocheter and everything else that comes with the territory of being a stay-at -home mom. Being a nothing keeps me out of trouble.
